We're pro-genocide?
Walking in to MTS training yesterday, this was DEFINITELY something I wasn't expecting to come away with.
I also wasn't expecting to be asked to forward my notes to the Dean either as a basis for a future article that he wanted to write! (note to self: the perils of being the only one taking a laptop into MTS training)
We also talked about when to publicly rebuke someone as ministers of the gospel (1 Tim 5:20), the place of aiming and measuring ministries numberically too.
Anyway, back to the genocide topic, here are some brief comments (watch out for an article to appear soon by the original author though!)
- Genocide in the Bible appears when God commands the Israelites to destroy all the Canaanites.
- Raises the question of how can God be a God of love?
- Justice and love go hand in hand. To love is to care about the well being. As soon as I love, I care and consequently I will seek justice
- When genocide occurs, those who remain faithful have always been saved by God - Noah, Rahab
- The next genocide to take place will be judgement. Christians must believe in justice otherwise we wouldn't believe in hell
- In Jesus, we are spared from that genocide as God removes the wickedness, corruption and evil within our world.
